The Madhvani Group has had a long and productive partnership with Jinja town and district spanning many decades. This has led to the construction of several civic buildings and hospitals in the town, and the latest incarnation of this partnership is the Kakira Clock Tower which when completed will be the first ever multiple faced satellite controlled clock tower in Uganda.

Once finished it will stand tall, over forty feet high, on the Gaddafi round about, Jinja. All highway traffic passing through will be able to read the time as they approach the roundabout as the clock will have four faces at its zenith which will all be lit at night. The clock mechanism has been designed to reset after a power failure by taking data from satellite - the mechanism can reset itself even if the power has been disconnected for ten years. The hands will track either clockwise or anti-clockwise depending on their relative positions when the power failed. They will move to the exact time once power is reconnected.

The design was created by the Projects Office Kakira with consultants after taking into consideration comments from the Jinja Municipal Council and the Uganda National Roads Authority. The concept of the clock tower, as designed by Madhvani Group Architect, Mr. Walter Wanjala, had two key principles at the core of its design: stability and future potential. This is testament to the continued belief by the Madhvani Group in the inherent growth potential of Jinja and the country as a whole.

The Kakira Clock Tower will have a classic look and as it continues to measure time over the years it will become a yardstick to quantify the pace of future development in the region.
